8月に行われるロンドン世界陸上へ出場する候補者たちと日本陸連関係者などがミーティングを行いました。
味の素ナショナルトレーニングセンターにて、様々な議論を交わしたみたいですが、その話の中心となったのは公務員ランナーとして一世を風靡した川内優輝選手です。
川内選手は今回のロンドンの世界陸上で日本代表争奪戦に参加するのは最後だと表明しました。ファンからしてみれば、残念な思いをする人が多いかもしれません。
日本陸連のマラソン強化リーダーである瀬古さんは残念そうな気持ちを前面に押し出したようなコメントを残しています。
と同時に東京オリンピックに出場するよう川内選手に説得を試みるものの、なかなか川内選手の意思は硬いようで五輪出場はおそらくなさそうです。

それに対して川内選手は「誰もが東京五輪を目指しているわけじゃない、ロンドンが全てなんです！」という川内選手らしいハキハキとしたコメントを残しました。
確かに陸上選手から見ると、監督やコーチはありがたい存在ではあるけれど、一方で選手側からしてみると、どこか放っておいてほしいという気持ちも少なからず存在しています。
ぼくは川内選手の気持ちは選手の気持ちとして理解できます。
そもそも川内選手は一人で練習することも多いということは有名です。なので自分に効きそうなトレーニングは自分で決めて実行に移していく。
また他人からアドバイスは求められることはあっても、全て受け入れるのではなく、自分に取って必要そうなものだけを取り入れるという現実的な思考を持っている選手です。
自分の人生は自分で決めたい。
そんなことを今回の味の素スタジアムで行われたロンドンオリンピックのミーティングのニュースを目の当たりにして感じましたね。
ちなみにどうでもいいことですが、一選手として練習計画から実行。そして、改善まで全て自分でプロデュースしたい気持ちは僕と似ているような気がしました。
やっぱり結局は自分で決めてやり通して方が楽な場合が多い気がしますね。
